Meet Dr. Larthenia Howard

Hi, I’m Larthenia! I am a Registered Marriage and Family Intern on the Treasure Coast of Florida. I work with individuals, couples, and families who have ongoing challenges connecting in relationships, and who experience depression and anxiety. I’m no different from the clients I see. Like everyone else, I’m human. I’ve been through wonderful and difficult experiences that have shaped who I am and how I help. Therapy helped to put my life back in order, and my own growth through personal life struggles is what helps me relate so deeply with clients. I enjoy guiding people toward positive changes and witnessing them achieve more fulfilling lives.

  • A mental health professional has training and experience to help you approach your situation in a new way, teach you new skills, help you gain different perspectives, and listen to you without judgment or expectations. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential.

  • Medication can be effective, but it cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to unpack problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

  • Think of Neurofeedback as personal training session for your brain, and a neurotherapist as your personal trainer! Neurofeedback is a painless, noninvasive approach that allows the individual to gain information about his or her brainwave activity and use that information to produce changes in brain activity that lead to better brain function. Training the brain to function at its optimal potential is similar to the way the body is exercised, toned, and maintained. When you give the brain information about itself, it has an enormous capacity for change.

  • Neurofeedback reads a client’s brainwaves, or EEG, and uses that information to create “feedback” as part of a video game or movie to show the brain what it is doing. Brainwave activity adjusts the speed, activity, volume, and visibility of the screen. When the brain sees that it is controlling what is happening on the screen, usually after a few minutes, it will use that “feedback” to adjust its own activity to be calmer, more stable, and better regulated.
